Little mermaid

I have heard the mermaids singing, each to each.
I do not think that they will sing to me.
I have seen them riding seaward on the waves
Combing the white hair of the waves blown back
When the wind blows the water white & black.
We have lingered in the chambers of the sea
By sea-girls wreathed in seaweed red & brown
Till human voices wake us, & we drown.
- Mermaids -- T.S. Elliot

When I was growing up, The Little Mermaid was always my favourite Disney movie.  I had strawberry blonde hair, was a fish in water and I also found the story horribly romantic.  Mermaid inspired fashion is going to be huge for 2012 so I thought I would share with you some inspirational photos as well as some runway looks!

Classic mermaid:
I loved the story by Hans Christian Andersen.  My favourite illustrations were by Charles Santore.  Here are some of them:

Urban mermaid:  A whimsical, Walt-Disney inspired dream come true.  Floor length glittering pieces, aquamarine, turquoise, pearls, sequins, and every shade of blue-- this season brings the ocean to wherever you are.

What do you think about the masks at Alexander McQueen?
Mint green is going to be a huge colour this spring.  I bought a bottle of nailpolish in that colour (similar to the Tiffany's box) a few months back and since I'm snowed in today (sigh) I'm going to go paint my nails and dream of spring and being a mermaid!

In a bleak midwinter

Happiness hit her like a train on a track
Coming towards her stuck still no turning back
She hid around corners and she hid under beds
She killed it with kisses and from it she fled
With every bubble she sank with her drink
And washed it away down the kitchen sink

All I want to do this time of year is hibernate.
It is so cold that as soon as you take a step outside your face starts to freeze.
I wish I could go back to California!
No news updates for me; I have been mostly working, sleeping, eating, and working on finding the perfect fit for an internship.  I am planning on leaving Toronto for a few months to a surprise destination.  I would tell you but I am not too sure yet, all I know is that an internship in Toronto is mostly a back-up plan if nothing else falls into place.
I am wondering, how is the winter treating you wherever you are?
Today is about a few winter goodies that have been cheering me up.  It is a little depressing that I can not wear most of these shoes in two feet of snow.  However, summer is on the way!  I will share a few more photos from my California trip as well.
Stay tuned for my favourites from S/S 2012 in the next post.
New shoes, purses, and bags.
Shoes top to bottom:
Random boutique - 100$ on sale for 15$
Red pumps - ALDO 100$ on sale for 30$
Mesh and leather black heels - ALDO 100$ on sale for 30$
Nude and black pumps - Sterling 80$ on sale for 30$ each

My extremely unorganized bin full of shoes.  When I get my own place I am getting shelves.  I have boxes piled up beside my bed as well.
Sequin clutch - BCBG (gift <3 )
Cloth clutch with adjustable strap - DKNY

Still more California party pictures to come!

California dreamin'

Be my fairy to the world,
Be my very own constellation,
A teenage bride with a baby inside
Getting high on information
And buy me a star on the boulevard
It's Californication

Happy holidays!
I know I said I would do a winter post but I just got back from a vacation in California so I thought I would just share a few tease photos.
My girlfriend is going to upload pictures from her camera tonight so I will do another post for you tomorrow!
So sorry I have been M.I.A. my loves.  What with my thesis, finishing school, and sneaking off for a vacation, I really have been neglecting my poor little blog.
The good news is that I did so much shopping in California that I was literally holding two pairs of shoes in my hand on the way home while wearing a pair that I bought because they just wouldn't fit in my shoes.
Got a D.K.N.Y. bag that is to die for and tons of other goodies!
Stay tuned!
For now just a few photos from my day trip to Los Angeles.  I want to live there!  I have my heart set on a fashion magazine internship but now I am going to take some time to explore my options abroad.  I love California!

Just a few phone photos!

Happy Holidays to all!
Lots more updates soon.

Love changes and best friends become strangers

Always been told that I've got too much pride
Too independent to have you by my side
But my heart said, all of you will see,
Just won't live for someone until they'll live for me...
Never thought I would find love so sweet
Never thought I would meet someone like you
- ROBYN -- SHOW ME LOVE

People tend to think waitressing, serving, and bartending are easy. You bring them food and drinks.  Wrong.  Well, right.  But there’s a lot more.  Did you think about the effort it took to set up your table?  Clean everything in the restaurant?  Polish your cutlery?  Make sure the kitchen understood EVERY WORD OF YOUR INSANELY PICKY ORDER IN THE MIDDLE OF A GIGANTIC RUSH?   Then we take your dirty chicken wing bones, used cutlery, napkins and everything else and dispose of it and clean up the area again.  There is also a tip-out at basically every single place where the hostesses, expo, kitchen, buss boys, managers, owners, Freddy and his neighbour get a piece of your tips based on percentage of sales.

So at the club 4% of 2000$ is 80$ that I tip out.  At Earl’s if I sold 2000$ I would tip out 100$ of my hard earned, chicken wing bone cleaning endured money.  I add up what I have given away over time and it really does make me sad.
We also entertain, listen to your stories, cater to your every whim, and bring you endless thirst quenching if we are good.

I am venting because I had a walk out…I brought a table two bottles: Grey Goose and Veuve, and they ran out on their 425$ bill.  Sometimes I can be too trusting.  (Normally I am supposed to take payment upfront or a credit card.)  I am stuck with their bill now, and even at basic cost of bottles that comes up to over 100$. Fortunately we have their last name, e-mail and possible credit card information, I may not be out of pocket but it was still a stressful situation.

I am tired of working until the wee hours of the morning. I just want to style, write, and make beautiful things happen, I am tired of bartending, serving and dealing with intoxicated patrons.

On the flip side, it can be a lot of fun, it is a social job that has helped me develop stellar communication skills.  Here are some photos from the last few weeks, sorry I have been M.I.A.!  Winter fashions coming soon ;)

Fall-ing in love

Yellow diamonds in the light
And we're standing side by side
As your shadow crosses mine
What it takes to come alive

It's the way I’m feeling I just can't deny
But I've gotta let it go

We found love in a hopeless place
We found love in a hopeless place

Two jobs and school again, it must be fall!
Some of my friends have been celebrating their birthdays at my club and I always make sure they get special treatment and have a great time.  Here are a few photos from the birthday celebrations!
Last weekend was pink-themed; we hosted an event to support breast cancer research.

Always good times!
I love planning events but I hope to move out of the club industry soon.
I would love to participate in fashion shows behind the scenes!

The launch of Versace for H&M is on November 19th, this is an event that I will be waiting in line for here in Toronto.  Here is a small preview of what to expect...

I know I have not been updating much but I have been catching the spring shows and I have selected a few of my favourite designs to share with you.  There will be more soon, and I am craving an outdoor photo shoot with the leaves, they are such pretty colours right now.  Happy thanksgiving to my fellow Canadians this weekend!

Burberry hopped on the pattern-wagon this season and uses lots of ruched and feminine detailing for spring.

Isabel Marant has perfectly embellished garments that are both practical and elegant with a touch of grunge.

Emilio Pucci uses lace and his signature textured patterns and rich colours.  This season, there is more of a digital psychedelic approach to his design showcase.

I love Chanel this spring, so simple and classic with whites & creams and an array of structured elegance.

Other trends for spring:
Mint, cotton candy pink, triangles, cropping and layering, longer skirts, sheer, shine & lace, gold & studs, embellishments

Stay warm my loves!
Any plans for Halloween?  ;)
